From Plant to Perfume - a day of botanical perfumery

£70.00

Lavender, Lemon, Rosemary, Thyme, Rose, Jasmine, Orange and Clove are familiar plants and fragrances. Modern day perfumery traces its origins from humble beginnings, a simple burning of resin as incense, the strewing of herbs, a splash of floral water or the scent of a pomander ball. Plants have been used in many forms since antiquity to fragrance the air, to anoint, cleanse, beautify and stir the senses.

Discover the origins of perfumery and the remarkable role of aromatic plants in this immersive oneway workshop. Enjoy a hands-on, interactive day embracing the theory and creative art of botanical perfumery, where you will learn about:

  • The origins and history of perfume from Cleopatra to Chanel

  • Understand perfume vocabulary, the art of smelling and training your nose

  • Perfume structure - top, middle and base note and fragrance families

  • Secrets of blending and dilution, safety and storage

Inspired by the surrounding beauty of Dilston Physic Gardens and using a palette of pure grade essential oils and absolutes, you will learn about the key ingredients in perfume creation and how to combine them. With ample time for sampling and discussion you will be guided on basic perfumery composition and blending to create your own alcohol-based natural perfume spray. Fees include all sampling, use of materials and equipment, detailed notes and your own bespoke 25ml spray perfume
